Check out the PetSafe Busy Buddy Kibble Nibble, a sturdy dog food puzzle whose egg shape gives it an unpredictable roll that dogs love. It is a perfect addition to your puzzle toy collection for dogs who already have puzzling experience. We give the Kibble Nibble 4 out of 5 stars.

Food puzzles are amazing, and I’m so glad that you are interested in them too! If you’re new to food puzzles, check out our article, What are Food Puzzles? to get a primer on these amazing toys!

What We Like

  • The edges are covered in rubber. – This slows the Kibble Nibble as it rolls, helping your dog stay more in control. Plus, it protects your floor.

  • The opening size is adjustable. – The prongs in the opening can be trimmed to adjust the difficulty.

  • It’s egg shaped. – The Kibble Nibble rolls less predictably than a round ball and needs to be rolled a certain way to get the kibble to fall out of the ends, making it harder and more mentally engaging than a round ball.

  • It opens fully. – You can unscrew the two halves in the middle, which makes it easy to fill and easy to clean.

  • It’s made from a durable, hard plastic – Kona has gnawed on the ends of ours for years, only inflicting minimal damage.

What We Don’t Like

The Biggest Issue

  • It’s loud. - If other members of your household are asleep, you’re on a conference call, or you need quiet for whatever reason, the Kibble Nibble isn’t the right puzzle for you.

    • Although, Gracie actually seems to find the loud noise of this puzzle to be a pro, not a con. She loves to give it a good strong shove to make it rattle around.

Mild Issues

  • Prong trimming is permanent. - Once you trim the prongs to make the puzzle easier, you can’t make it harder if your dog gets better at solving it. So, it’s probably not worth buying until your dog is past the learning curve.

  • Not the best in the dishwasher. – It is listed as dishwasher safe, and we wash it in the dishwasher, but the rubber edges get really soft. They have been dented some and left some purple stuff on our glasses a few times.

  • The threads are a pain. - The threads don’t align easily when trying to screw the two halves of the puzzle together. This is an issue we have noticed with other PetSafe BusyBuddy puzzles as well.

Conclusion

Our dogs would give this a 5-star rating, but the human side of things could use a bit of polish, which is why we settled on 4 stars. The KIbble Nibble is excellent to expand a food puzzle collection and is a dog-pleaser. If your dog is brand new to puzzling, check out the Kong Wobbler or Outward Hound Fun Feeder first.
